Premier mast-producing oak and the conservation contractor standard. Acorns ripen annually (unlike red oak group — biennial). Supports more caterpillar species than any other woody plant in the eastern US. On-property acorn collection in October provides essentially free seed stock. Tubeling format ideal for NRCS reforestation.
