The most adaptable native warm-season grass — tolerates dry, mesic, and wet soils, full sun to light shade. NRCS erosion-control and filter-strip staple. Open, airy seedheads September–October. Red fall color on some ecotypes. Valuable for ground-nesting birds and small mammals.
